Standards support
Firefox has extensive support for most basic Web standards including HTML, XML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, DOM, MathML, SVG, XSL and XPath. Firefox's standards support and growing popularity have been credited as one reason Internet Explorer 7 was to be released with improved standards support.
Since Web standards are often in contradiction with Internet Explorer's behavior, Firefox, like other browsers, has a quirks mode. This mode attempts to mimic Internet Explorer's quirks mode, but it isn't completely compatible. Because of the differing rendering, PC World notes that a minority of pages do not work in Firefox.
c|Net notes that Firefox does not support ActiveX controls by default, which can also cause webpages to be missing features or to not work at all in Firefox. Mozilla made the decision to not support ActiveX due to potential security vulnerabilities, its proprietary nature and its lack of cross-platform compatibility. There are methods of using ActiveX in Firefox such as via third party plugins but they do not work in all versions of Firefox or on all platforms.
Beginning on December 8, 2006, Firefox trunk nightly builds pass the Acid2 CSS standards compliance test, so all future releases of Firefox 3 will pass the test.
Features
Features included with Firefox are tabbed browsing, spell checker, incremental find, live bookmarking, an integrated download manager, and a search system that includes Google. The developers of Firefox aimed to produce a browser that "just surfs the web" and delivers the "best possible browsing experience to the widest possible set of people."
Users can customize Firefox with extensions and themes. Mozilla maintains an add-on repository at addons.mozilla.org with nearly 2000 add-ons in it as of September 2007.
Firefox provides an environment for web developers in which they can use built-in tools, such as the Error Console or the DOM Inspector, or extensions, such as Firebug.

You can even set Firefox 2 to always restore your previous session instead of loading a home page, so you'll never lose your place again. - Web Feeds (RSS)
What do news headlines, indie rock podcasts, and pictures of kittens have in common? They're all things that you can subscribe to with Web feeds. Firefox 2 gives you full control over Web feeds, showing you a preview and letting you choose how you want to subscribe. You can use a Firefox Live Bookmark, or a feed reader that you've installed on your computer, or through a Web service such as My Yahoo!, Bloglines or Google Reader.

Keep an eye on that auction or the status of a delivery using the new Live Titles feature in Firefox 2. Compact enough to fit as a bookmark label, Live Titles are regularly updated summaries of the most important information on a Web page.
